Jonathan Stewart

Jonathan Stewart joined Fairtree in 2026 and is a Fixed Income Portfolio Manager in the Investment team. He began his career in 1994 as an Economist at the Industrial Development Corporation and then moved to Sanlam Asset Management. From 1998 to 2007, he held Head of Fixed Income roles at Gryphon Asset Management, FT-NIB Investments and RMB Asset Management. In 2008, he was appointed Chief Investment Officer at RMB Asset Management (later: Momentum Asset Management), where he was responsible for the entire investment process across asset classes. In 2012, he joined MMI Holdings Limited as a Strategist before being appointed Head of Exponential Ventures, where he led disruptive innovation initiatives and venture capital partnerships. In 2018, he co-founded Root Platform in Cape Town, leading sales, partnerships, commercial strategy and go-to-market initiatives. Jonathan holds a Master of Commerce in Economics and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree in Economics from the University of Stellenbosch. He is also a CFA® charterholder.
